Ryan Lumpkin grew up in Lakewood, Colorado, aspiring to go to college to study science, particularly chemistry. Attending the University of Denver as a freshman, he bought his first DSLR, and soon after that, he began to work as a photographer for the school newspaper, The Clarion, and proceeded to serve as the photo editor of the paper for two years. During his freshman year, he took his first photography class, specifically learning the techniques of film photography, including development of film and prints. Ryan continues to take digital and film photos, particularly portraits, and always preferring to shoot in black and white. He recently has been experimenting with rangefinders and toy cameras as alternatives to his film SLR.
